The Human Development Institute (HDI) promotes the inclusion, independence, and contributions of people with disabilities and their families throughout the lifespan. The HDI provides services and support to promote the full inclusion of people with disabilities throughout Kentucky and the nation. We embrace the belief that we are all impacted by disability and need to prioritize our work into early care & education, leadership & self-advocacy, employment, health, research & evaluation, and universal design & assistive technology.
The HDI fosters inclusion in community living with the support of technology and universal design. A significant need identified by our community is to provide access to adaptive equipment and training. Your contribution to HDI will support the Center for Assistive Technology to provide services to the people who need it. A donation of $25 can provide a child with equipment to enhance learning and play; a $50 donation can provide equipment to allow a person to drive; and a donation of $250 can cover the cost of equipment and training to help an individual and their family do every day activities.
Ada Springer is recovering from a fall and broken hip. She has been utilizing our CARAT and lending library services for several months. Ms. Springer has a limited income and says that she would have been unable to purchase these items for herself. Because of donations from people like you, Ms. Springer has the equipment that she needs to be more independent and do everyday activities safely. She is currently living with her daughter, Lue Coldiron, who says “HDI CATS has been a Godsend and has made taking care of Mom much easier and safer for everyone!”
With your generous support, HDI will continue providing people with disabilities and their families full access to education, work, health, housing, recreation, and relationships across our communities.
