Broadening Students’ Horizon
Experience… can be a great teacher!
We want to give all students every opportunity to learn, inside and outside of the classroom. Today, during the UK One Day of Giving, funds raised will provide financial assistance to students for travel. We offer many opportunities, outside of the classroom, for students to experience real-world work environments, different cultures and even travel abroad. And, finances should not be a barrier for experiences that may prove to be life-changing. Your gift during this one day will ensure all students can have a once in a lifetime opportunity through the College of Communication and Information!
Meredith, a communications graduate student, first traveled to Nigeria in 2019 to collect qualitative data for her doctorate. She states, “Without going there I could not have completed my research. I work with widowed women who are HIV positive. You cannot cultivate relationships without being there in person. I was able to interview these women and hear their incredibly powerful stories.”
Baily, a journalism major, studied world media in Ireland. She learned not just media and journalism in Ireland but also history, sports, art and so much more. She discovered Ireland and Kentucky have a lot in common, and as such, learned how to put Kentucky media and even media in the broader U.S. into an international context. She studied with a UK faculty member and 10 other UK students which made the experience even richer.
Funding is critical to give students the opportunities to travel to businesses in Louisville, Chicago or abroad. They can experience various cultures and broaden their vision for the future. These experiences help expand our students’ worldview in ways we may never imagine.
