The Veterans Resource Center exists as a resource for all. Our primary objective is to assist our men and women in uniform as they transition into higher education. Our focus is on retention of student veterans by providing resources that these students rely on. Beyond retention, we strive to do our best to ensure academic success for our veterans as they pursue college degrees at the University of Kentucky. Our resources and services are not just open to veterans but also military students actively serving in the National Guard and Reserve, and family members attending UK utilizing VA educational benefits.
Despite the generous Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits, many of our students encounter financial need along the way to degree completion. They all juggle their education along with other responsibilities that come with being an adult. If this financial need is insurmountable, many will drop out of school and not achieve their goal of graduating from the University of Kentucky. In addition, those military connected students who may not qualify for GI Bill or only qualify for a portion of it, also face an uphill financial battle.
To assist these students, we rely on the Veterans Scholarship Gift Fund. It is an invaluable part of what we do here at the Veterans Resource Center. Our scholarship fund provides need based financial assistance designed to improve retention and graduation rates for our student veterans and military connected students. It serves as an investment in our future here in the Commonwealth as well as a pillar of our commitment to these students who willingly bore the burden of our nation’s defense.
