When the University of Kentucky first opened its doors, a year of operations required a $13,000 budget—supported, of course, by profits from campus-raised produce. Shoestring as it may have been, this budget launched the Commonwealth’s land-grant institution, and, with it, a world of opportunity for Kentuckians studying agricultural and mechanical arts. University operations have changed greatly since 1865. So, too, have our opportunities to serve Kentucky. Across every corner of our institution, we are rising to the 21st century challenges facing everyday Kentuckians... Dieticians curbing growing diabetes rates. Scientists recovering rare minerals from long abandoned coal mines. Farmers implementing technologies to feed a growing world. Nurses bringing modern healthcare to the rural countryside… The call to serve has expanded and so have we. Your support for the CAFE Land-Grant Engagement Fund will help us tackle issues facing Kentucky for another 158 years. Gifts to this account will provide immediate use funds, ensuring the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment continues to meet our lang-grant mission every day.
